Strategic Development Plans - Columbus Redevelopment Commission

About

Strategic Development plans for Columbus, Indiana focus on development in five areas:

  1. Amateur Sports and Recreation
  2. Learning and Culture
  3. Dining and Entertainment
  4. Living
  5. Shopping

The Columbus Redevelopment Commission considers development in these five areas a mission that will improve the quality of life for the residents of Columbus. This commission is an integral part of the Columbus-Bartholomew County Planning Department.

The Columbus-Bartholomew Planning Department provides both long-range community planning and current development review services for the City of Columbus and Bartholomew County. The Planning Department also provides zoning and subdivision control ordinance administration services for the Town of Hartsville and the Edinburgh / Bartholomew / Columbus Joint District Plan Commission.

The mission of the Planning Department is

  • To facilitate discussion of community planning issues
  • To provide land use and development information to local elected and appointed officials
  • To provide opportunities for public input on development, land use, and other community issues

Redevelopment helps local governments revitalize their communities. It is a locally driven initiative that encourages new development, creates jobs and generates tax revenues in declining urbanized areas by developing partnerships between local governments and private entities. Each plan is created locally and is tailored to the specific needs of the community.
